They occupy the same geometric space and can be interchanged without damaging the board and/or compromising its functionality. 1-brick rather than 2-brick is a format identification that makes it easier to indicate the size of a module by taking its width (minimum size) as a reference. A 1-brick is the minimum width module, i.e. 16mm, so a 2-brick will have twice the width, i.e. 32mm. All 1-brick and 2-brick modules are compatible between modules of the same size.
